On April 6, 1928 Peru Municipal Golf Course opened for play and since then many golfers have enjoyed the golf course, the exercise, the competition, and the friendships forged at the “Muni”. In 1928 the golf course was nine holes, there was no irrigation system, the golf season was April – September , the clubhouse was behind #9 green, and Chet Peel was the golf professional.
Since the opening season in 1928, many improvements have been made. The first water system was installed in 1930 to front nine greens only, the back 9 opened in 1934 along with the maintenance building left of #3 green. The current clubhouse was built in 1968, a fairway irrigation system was added in 1987, and cart paths were added throughout the 80s and 90s. During the 90s we enjoyed a paved parking lot, while all bridges were rebuilt to provide better access and safety, and various tees and drainage projects improved the course. The start of 2006 saw beautiful new bunkers culminating a three month effort involving golf course staff, crew and many golfer volunteers.
